Not another IMAP skin
Zima was built for the parts of Zimbra that generic mail clients leave behind.
- 01Transparent sync. See the current phase, folder, progress, throughput, remaining time and a human-readable retry reason instead of an indefinite spinner.
- 02A cache you control. Set a budget, retention window and attachment policy per folder. Read bodies and attachments offline, then clear everything, one folder or attachments alone.
- 03Search the whole mailbox. Use Zimbra's server-side Lucene across tens of gigabytes, local full-text search when offline, visual filters, or raw queries such as
larger:10mb before:1/1/2025. - 04Server-side filters. Create and edit Sieve rules without losing clauses the app does not model, protect against concurrent edits, and run a new rule retroactively over a folder.
Mail that keeps working
The native interface is the visible part. Underneath it is a local mail engine built for a very large, long-lived mailbox.
Real offline mode
Bodies, attachments and conversations remain readable. Sending uses a persistent outbox; read state, flags, moves, deletion and tags queue locally and survive a restart.
Dark mail, not inverted mail
Light email is recolored by luminance while hue, muted saturation and images are preserved. Messages that already provide a dark design stay untouched.
Smart mailboxes
Unread, flagged, VIP and pinned tags combine messages across folders. Zimbra saved searches remain server-side and editable from the app.
Built for large mailboxes
Keyset pagination, a GRDB-backed local store, explicit cache eviction and full-text indexes keep a mailbox with tens of thousands of messages responsive.
Private by default
Remote images are blocked until allowed once or for a sender. The local database uses Data Protection, and network trust is pinned to the expected certificate roots.
One app, shaped for each screen
The same Swift core serves three native layouts instead of stretching a phone interface until it fits.
iPhone
Fast lists, threads, rich composition, swipe actions, multi-select, attachments, tags, VIP and Undo Send in a focused single-column flow.
iPad
A three-column mailbox, keyboard shortcuts and drag-and-drop messages into sidebar folders make the larger screen genuinely useful.
Mac
A Catalyst build with native multi-selection, a dedicated settings window, attachment preview, printing and sandboxed file access.
Zima is currently used privately against our Zimbra deployment. Public availability details will follow when the distribution build is ready.
